Hi! My name is Laura van Doorn, I am a Dutch student majoring in International Business, and I am now in Bali, Indonesia for my internship at Come2Indonesia. I recently obtained my PADI Open Water Diver certification, and I would like to tell you about my unforgettable experience!

I’d always been attracted by the idea of exploring the undersea environment, but I held myself back because of my concern that I wouldn’t be able to breathe through my nose. But when I finally decided to enrol in the PADI Open Water Diver course in Bali, everything changed. I had no idea that this would result in such a memorable trip that would leave me in wonder for multiple reasons.

During my first training session, I hesitantly put the regulator in my mouth and took my first few underwater breaths. It turned out to be a lot easier than I had anticipated. With each passing second, my panic started to fade. The experience of breathing underwater felt strangely liberating.

After a while I gained confidence in both the tools and in myself, which allowed me to fully appreciate the beauty of the underwater world.

My PADI Open Water course’s diving experience in Tulamben, Bali, stands out as one of my most memorable moments. Exploring the famous shipwreck, the USAT Liberty wreck, was the highlight of this experience. It was amazing to go to the depths and come across this enormous underwater treasure. I found diving to be very calming and relaxing. You are floating in a stunning underwater environment filled with beautiful fish of all kind and colorful coral. It was incredibly cool to see a turtle, a ray, and a small octopus.

Looking back, I can say that it was an experience that gave me a lasting love for diving and a deep appreciation for the ocean. Every dive, whether it was with turtles, rays, or just among the coral reefs, served as a reminder of the wonder that can be found below the surface.
