Kura-Kura Resort occupies a small island in the Karimunjawa archipelago. With easy access to surrounding dive sites, the divers are a few minutes away from the magnificent reefs, shipwrecks, and beautiful corals. On top of that, there is a house reef with a bunch of critters that you will only spot at night time. With almost no currents and nice temperature, it would be one of your memorable diving destination!

Note: During the months of December to March, western winds blow in the Karimunjawa Archipelago, creating huge waves that causes many cancellations of the ships that cross to the islands. Although a storm can occur at any time of the year, we do not advise clients to travel to Karimunjawa during those months due to the recurrence of bad weather in that period.

Diving: Karimunjawa

As one of the favorite dive sites in Indonesia, Karimunjawa has several dive sites that are in good to excellent condition for all sorts of divers. The marine area around the archipelago offers various types of diving spots such as reefs and wrecks. The waters are warm and very safe even for the kids to try out some snorkeling. Drift diving is also popular as currents are often quite strong.

There are a number of reefs around the islands which offer good coral growth and sea lives. A good variety of species can be found here including some rarer ones such as Crocodile fish and Leafy Scorpion fish and whale sharks if they are passing through.

The shipwrecks around the islands also give the divers a thrilling experience. After many years on the ocean floor, they naturally become home to the reef fishes. There is also an interesting point on Menyawakan Island where divers will have the opportunity to get close-up with the turtles. Shortly, diving lovers will have a lot of amazing experience in this archipelago.

Our favorite time for travel in Indonesia is between April to October, although Indonesia is a great year-round destination, offering memorable experiences for all kinds of adventures. July to August are the peak summer months.

In West to Central part of the weather is delightfully warm and it’s a popular time for travelers to visit for holidays, whilst if you wish to travel from October to April, the Eastern part Indonesia, like Banda and Raja Ampat, would be the best option.

How do I get to Semarang?

Daily flights are available between Jakarta & Semarang by Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, Batik Air and Citilink airlines. From Bali, it is available by Garuda Indonesia.

Recommended dive sites

Pioneer Reef

Climbing down a ladder from the resort’s jetty and with a little swim, you will reach the house reef. It’s a very long slope that gets to 42 meters but it is really adaptable to any kind of level. Even though the coral is not the best part of this dive site, beautiful sea fans are scattered all around the site. Moray Eels, Razor fish, Needle Fish and Sardines are easily spotted around here.

Hawksbill Point

This beautiful dive site lies just in front of the resort’s Blue Bar. On this coral slope, you can find the Electric Clam, a type mollusk that has a highly reflective tissue on their mantle. This tissue is exposed and hidden very quickly by the clam and creates the appearance of a flashing light. Parrot fish, Puffer fish and Turtles inhabit the reef.

Sleeping Beauty

Just five minutes on a boat ride from the resort and you’ll find yourself surrounded by a gorgeous coral garden and tropical fish. Home to Turtles, Anemone Fish, Blue Spotted Sting Ray, Jack Fish and all the coral reef’s usual inhabitants. You’ll find out why this dive site was named Sleeping Beauty after a few night dives: Baby Bamboo Sharks, Mangrove Crabs, Lobster and many other critters can be spotted during nightfall.
