Quarantine on a dive liveaboard? Now it’s possible!

Thanks to the new regulations of the Indonesian government, it will no longer be necessary to do quarantine, locked in a hotel room!

Quarantine While diving in Indonesia

From now on, it is allowed to use some dive boats (those that have obtained the permits) to carry out the quarantine, while you enjoy diving on the seabed of Indonesia.

Depending on the area and route, you can spend between 5 and 12 days diving or snorkeling in the best coral reefs in the world. Shore excursions where local communities do live will not be allowed.

The ships will have a cabin exclusively to, if necessary, be able to isolate any of the passengers in accordance to COVID-19 protocols. And it will consist of a small clinical room for first aid on board.

How does this type of quarantine work on liveaboard ships?

At the moment, there are 2 different types of crossings: One in Manado and the other in Bali.

Quarantine cruise in Manado, Sulawesi, Indonesia

Flight arrival and departure point:

All people who wish to do a liveaboard-quarantine in Manado, will need to fly internationally to Manado International Airport (MDC), currently available using Scoot Airline (subsidiary of Singapore Airlines) and have to do a PCR test on arrival (the results will be sent to the ship).

Once in Manado, you do not need to take any other domestic flights. Boats will be waiting at Bitung Port, which is just a 45-minute drive from Manado International Airport.

Due to regulations, the starting and ending port of the crossing will be Bitung. Once the diving trip is over, it will be necessary to take a last PCR test, and if it is negative, you will be able to move freely around the country without having to do more days of quarantine.

The routes that are available right now are Sulawesi – Halmareha – Sulawesi (more info on this link) and soon also to Gorontalo and Togian Islands.

Quarantine Cruise in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia

Flight arrival and departure point:

Everyone who wants to make a liveaboard-quarantine in Bali, will need to fly internationally to Denpasar International Airport (DPS), currently available using Singapore Airlines, Batik Air, Garuda Indonesia or any other airline that has direct flights to Bali without going through Jakarta (quarantine is mandatory on the first point of entry into Indonesia).

Boats will be waiting at the port of Serangan/Benoa, which is just a 10-minute drive from the airport.

Due to regulations, the starting and ending port of the crossing will be Bali, and diving will be on the islands of Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan and Bali. Once the diving trip is over, you will not need to perform more days of quarantine.
